      Hi Brandon

If you complete a PhD then the starting annual salary of someone working as a scientist in the Higher Education sector is £30-35K or thereabouts. You can work your way up the salary ladder from there depending on promotion to lecturer and eventually professor. As your salary increases, so do your responsibilities. The salary of a parasite researcher is similar to that of other scientists who have been trained to PhD level.

To get to the point of having a PhD will involve paying (deferred) fees to a University for your undergraduate degree. You may then have to pay for and undertake a postgraduate course such as an MSc before then having to find funds for a PhD – some people take out another loan but many search for scholarships.

If you work in the private sector you might expect to start on a higher salary depending on the company and your responsibilities within the company
